I listened to Jimi Hendrix since I can remember and was probably the first person you always wanted to be when I was a child. I love the guitar, but I can play as much as I can walk on the moon. When I was much younger he tried to take classes guitar, but I had my own guitar and had to use my parents. The problem with that is that I am left handed and my father's right hand and we had to keep changing the strings on which my father complained in. There was no way I could play guitar left handed like Jimi so I finally gave up and decided to appreciate the skill with the guitar others and focus my energy on other things.
Jimi was born in November 1942 27 in Seattle, Washington, and is remembered as one of the best guitarists of all time (the biggest for me). Jimi first became famous in the U.S. (your country) and ended his career in London, England. Jimi made success in the U.S. when he performed at the Monteray Pop Festival in 1967, later called the Woodstock Festival in 1969. Jimi had many influences to his music, including Muddy Waters, BB King, Curtis Mayfield and even Pete Townshend (The Who) and was also influenced by his American Indian heritage.
Over the years helped Jimi to revolutionize music by developing several guitar techniques (saturation amplifiers to produce guitar feedback), and was one of the first artists to use stereophonic and phasing effects in the recording studio. Jimi is also known for his flamboyant fashion sense and plays.
Jimi was found dead in the basement of the Samarkand Hotel in London (I went to see for myself during a visit) and the cause of death was said to have drowned in his own vomit after drinking red wine and sleeping pills more. The circumstances leading upto Jimi's death, remain a mystery and some details vary from report to report.
Jimi was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and has many other accomplishments as a pop singer Melody Maker 'for the years 1967 and 1968, Rolling Stone Magazines number 1 of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time, and also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Jimi launched several studio albums (some of the remarkable Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, Rainbow Bridge and Electric Ladyland) and has also released several live albums (Band Of Gypsys, Isle of Wight, and Bleeding Heart to name a few). Some of the most popular singles were Jimi: Hey Joe, Stone Free, Purple Haze, All Along The Watchtower, Foxy Lady, Voodoo Child and Little Wing.
There have been many artists and bands that have covered songs by Jimi in recent years (The Cure – Purple Haze, Stone Free – Eric Clapton, Bold As Love – The Pretenders) and there have also released several albums of tribute in his honor.

The Greatest Songs Ever: India $13.98 The rather eccentric Greatest Songs Ever series continues with this rather eccentric compilation of tracks, not all of which are songs, not all of which are from India, and not all of which, it must be said, are great. All of them are at least from South Asia, however, and although the legendary Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan might well have been offended to find himself categorized as Indian on this collection, listeners are all the richer for the compilers’ ignorance (or willful disregard). As one might expect, his contribution is the class of the program, but there are some other inspiring selections as well: Lata Mangeshkar’s “Aye-Dil-E-Nadan” is gorgeous, and her “Honton Mein Aisi Maat” is a glorious throwback to cheesy Indian pop recordings of yesteryear, complete with lugubrious strings and a generally loungy atmosphere. The presence of the Bill Laswell/Karsh Kale vehicle Tabla Beat Science is a bit jarring, but the final track, a dark, melismatic piece dominated by the closely miked bamboo flute of Hariprasad Chaurasia, is a spectacular finale to a strange but ultimately quite satisfying compilation of Indian music both new and not-so-new. Maybe not essential, but recommended. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide |
